What is the cost?

Typically the cost will be approximately  $150  for the set of products you initially take home. Most of the products last you quite a long time. The real active ones are purposefully put in smaller containers as these will be strengthened at different points in your treatment plan. The treatments are $75. It typically takes about six treatments over a 3-month period of time to see results. If you come in for a consultation only, the cost is $40. If you come in for a treatment and consultation, which is what most people do, you pay for the treatment which is $75, and the consultation fee is waived.

How long will the appointment take?

The first appt is scheduled for about an 1 ½ hour and subsequent appointments for an hour. When you start to get clearer and there are less extractions to do, treatments will take less and less time. This excludes enzyme therapy treatments that will always take the approximately the same amount of time every time.

What is going to happen in the appointment?

It depends on whether you get just a consultation OR you get a consultation and treatment. The consultation by itself is $40. If you, however, come in for a treatment, which is $75, the consultation is free.

This is what to expect from your first appointment:

  • – Consult with you regarding your experience and your prior treatments

  • – Completely analyze your skin and acne.

  • -Give you mounds of useful information regarding products and diet, medications etc.

  • – Take some preliminary pictures

  • -Test your skin for sensitivities, make product recommendations and show you exactly how to use the products (and, if you are getting a treatment), do the treatment, which includes exfoliation and extractions.

What are the treatments like?

I will either do a chemical peel on your skin or enzyme with steam. Generally speaking, neither of these are uncomfortable or will make your skin visibly peel, however this depends on the amount of damage and buildup on the skin in which case you might experience very mild peeling. I will also do extractions on your acne.

Do the extractions hurt?

For most people, there is a slight discomfort but it’s very tolerable.

Why do the extractions?

It’s the fastest way to get clear – I extract the current lesions out and the homecare prevents the new ones from forming. It takes up to 90 days for acne to form and come to the surface, so in the three months that we are working with you, you will have some breakout. These are just old lesions coming to the surface that I extract every two weeks.

Do I have to use your products?

Yes. There are too many brands in the marketplace that have pore-clogging ingredients in them. Acne is tricky enough to treat – we do not want to take any chances with comedogenic products. Your home care products are an essential part of your treatments. Not only do they prevent more acne lesions from forming the products you have been prescribed are also building the strength of your skin so that it will be healthy enough to tolerate professional treatments with me. If you are not using your prescribed regimen or if you add in other products that have not been authorized, you not only put your skin at potential risk for unexpected reactions but you also risk significantly delays in  achieving clear skin.

Do I have to get treatments?

It is in your best interest to get acne treatments. That is the fastest way to get clear; and also helps me to monitor your homecare to get you clear in the fastest possible way.

Do I take insurance?

No,  I am a skin care specialist (esthetician) and not a medical facility.

How does the system work?

My system works by taking into account the type of acne you have, the type of skin you have and how fast your skin adapts to products. I keep pushing the skin to clear with products that penetrate the pore where acne starts. I  don’t push it past its tolerance however, because we don’t want your skin dry and irritated. The products prevent the new acne lesions from forming; we extract the existing acne lesions out and in about 4 to 8 months your acne is under control.

What do the peels actually do?

As your esthetician, I can explain more about that in your appointment. My high quality blended corrective peels have multiple purposes including thorough exfoliation, softening of comedones and they lighten dark spots. They also prepare the skin for maximum absorption of your prescribed homecare products.  As a nice bonus they can actually help with signs of aging, as well.

What if I’m on other prescription products for acne?

I require acne clients stop prescription acne  products. They make the skin much too sensitive to use my system. Therefore I generally do not recommend the use of any of them with my regimen. As with any prescription medications I would advise you to consult with your prescribing physician prior to stopping the use of any medications, however, I believe that ultimately the decision is yours. Just know that while you are taking prescription acne medications and in some cases, depending on which medication it is, you will not be able to participate in the acne program. I will be able to provide treatments for your acne but you would not be an ideal candidate for the intensive treatments involved with my acne program. If you have further questions about this please contact me directly.

Can I combine your regimen with another one that I have been on?

Acne is challenging enough to get under control. In order to eliminate the variables, I require that you use only my products. We don’t want to have to wonder if an outside product is causing a problem.

How long does it typically take to get clear?

If you do your homecare exactly like I tell you to and come in every two weeks for a treatment you will most likely be clear in about four to eight months. Some people might take a little longer depending on the nature and severity  of their acne.

Am I going to have to use these products forever?

You will need to use products to control your acne until your skin balances out if it was being caused by an external factor, however, some people just have acne prone skin and will most likely have to use products to keep it under control so they don’t just go back to square one. In these cases, we will get you under control and then together we will find the perfect combination that will allow you to maintain your clear skin with the minimal necessary products to do so. Many people will balance out and eventually become acne free, but I am unable to predict when, so you may have to use them for a while to manage your acne, but not everyone will need to use them forever.

What is the youngest age that you take clients?

I will take clients at whatever age they are breaking out. Acne does not discriminate – neither do I.

Do extractions make my face red? What about if I have a special event coming up? When should I book my appointment?

Most people are quite red from getting extractions – there’s no way around it. So, you really need to plan ahead and make sure you do not have a special event within 24-48 hours of getting a treatment.

Is there anything that takes the redness away?

I do have products that will help counteract the redness, however, it is not an instantaneous fix. I can always provide you with DMKC makeup and teach you easy application tricks that can help with camouflaging it till it does dissipate. The bonus with DMKC is that it will not only camouflage your acne while we are treating it, it actually helps to clear your skin.

How long should I wait for a treatment if I have just gotten a peel/microderm/waxing from another place of business?

I suggest that you wait at least a week for waxing or microdermabrasion, and two weeks  for any facials or peels before you come to see me. We don’t want your skin to be too irritated to use my home care system. I can also provide you with waxing services moving forward so that you will know that your skin is being cared for even while having hair removed.

Are doctors on staff?

There are not any physicians on staff. I am an esthetician licensed by the State of California.

How am I different from a doctor?

I have more time to spend with you than a busy doctor. I can listen to all of your skin care concerns. I keep updated with the latest research about acne. I have the highest levels of certification an esthetician can have in the COUNTRY. Continual  advanced education has always been a top priority for me as a professional. I am a Certified DMK Dermal Technician, Certified Dermalogica Expert, Certified PCA Skin Master Peel Specialist, Certified Face Reality Acne Specialist and I am a N.C.E.A. Nationally Certified Professional.   I have the best and most effective acne products that do not require a prescription. I have compassion and empathy as your clinician because I too once suffered from acne, so I know what you are going through. I give you honest and straightforward answers to all of your skin care questions; and if I do not know the answer, I will do research. I keep in close contact with you throughout your process of getting clear; making sure that your home care is working properly and your skin is responding. I am  hands-on with you in working with your skin, your skin type, your acne type and always do extractions if they are needed in your treatment appointments.

What if I am pregnant?

I can still treat you for acne, but first you will have to get a form from me to take to your doctor for them to sign off on what they ok with and what ingredients they want you to avoid.

Do you treat scarring?

It depends on what you mean by scarring? If you have dark spots, then yes, those will be treated along with the acne. If you have pitted scars, then I will make it clear up front that while you may see some improvement in the texture of your scars I will only be able to do so much, deeper scars can be treated as well, however,  it will take time to treat these and this requires strict adherence to your prescribed home care regimen.

Do you treat bumps on the arms aka keratosis pilarsis?

Yes, I do treat this condition with pretty good results.

Do you do microdermabrasion?

Yes I do, but I do it  sparingly for acneic conditions.  It is more effective later on during treatment once most of the pustular activity is under control. I prefer to use facial treatments,  corrective peels and enzyme therapy  that also help to lighten dark spots as well as treat your acne condition. As your esthetician, I will determine the best treatment to do for your skin.

What other skin conditions do you treat?

Other than acne, I also treat hyperpigmentation, premature aging, sensitized skin, eczema,  and I  can also treat rosacea.

Why do I have to give my credit card information?

It is standard business practice to hold your appointment with a credit card number. I want to know that you are as serious as I am about helping you have clear skin. My time is valuable and so is the time of my clients. This ensures that as many appointments are available as possible for my clients to find a time in their busy schedule that will connect with one in my busy schedule.

Do you offer a family discount?

No, but I do reward referrals  – for every person you refer to me, you will receive rewards to redeem toward products or services. My clients also earn rewards for their purchases of products and services and even for booking their appointments online.
